Raising the Standard in Suspended Access Safety

A very warm welcome to SAEMA’s online training platform.

Working at height remains one of the most high-risk activities in construction, building management and maintenance. Ensuring that everyone involved – from leaders and duty holders to site operatives – is fully equipped with the right knowledge is not just a matter of compliance. It is a matter of saving lives, protecting reputations and raising the professional standard of our industry.

That is why SAEMA Online Training was created. It is a ground-breaking digital learning platform designed specifically for those working in, or responsible for, the suspended access arena. With highly engaging animated visuals and a built-in testing and invigilation system to safeguard integrity, the platform delivers an unmatched learning experience. Every course is designed to inform, engage and inspire confidence before anyone even sets foot on site.

The training is structured around three core areas:

  • Permanent Equipment (Permanent Part 1)
Providing vital knowledge of installed systems, launched in 2021 and already taken by more than 5,000 participants.
  • Temporary Equipment (Temporary Part 1)
Equipping operatives and managers with the skills to recognise and understand temporary suspended access solutions.
  • Duty Holders
Giving building owners and managers absolute clarity on their responsibilities, from understanding what equipment they have, to what maintenance is required, and their legal obligations for ongoing safety.

This suite of courses has been carefully designed by SAEMA’s expert advisors to ensure every learner walks away with a deeper understanding of the legislation, the equipment and the practical realities of working safely at height. The visualised modules allow users to see and recognise equipment in a way that traditional training cannot replicate, while the built-in testing mechanism ensures learning is measurable, meaningful and credible.

For employers and building owners, SAEMA training provides a seal of approval that demonstrates your people are not only competent but professionally trained to the highest industry standards. For operatives, it offers knowledge and confidence that helps keep them – and their colleagues – safe every day.

The benefits are clear: safer sites, higher professional standards, reduced risks and enhanced reputations. In an environment where safety is paramount, there is no substitute for informed, accredited training.

About Permanent and Temporary Part 1 & 2

Overview

In line with BS6037, users of suspended access equipment must undergo suitable training before using any apparatus. This training is split into two parts.

Part 1 – Theory covering information common to all suspended access equipment, working at height and general hazards.

This important Part 1 training via the SAEMA online assessment centre is very simple to access and results in a virtual training card that can be presented and checked in real time on site when attending the Part 2 training or for using the equipment.

The price for Part 1 theory voucher codes is £75.00 + VAT each

Part 2 – Practical On-Site covering site systems, specific equipment, interface with the building, site risk assessment, emergency procedures, operational features, etc.

Once a candidate has successfully completed the Part 1 theory training, an onsite course can be booked. The onsite course will usually be delivered by the maintenance engineers who know the site and equipment best. Candidates attending a Part 2 onsite course without the requisite Part 1 theory training in place will be refused access. As Part 2 onsite training is site specific, please contact the maintenance provider to make the arrangements and to agree the costs.

If your provider cannot offer suitable structured, certified training, please consider using a SAEMA member (click here).

"SAEMA Online Training is not just another course. It is the future of suspended access safety. Our badge is a seal of approval."

Testimonial

Concept Clean, based in Milton Keynes, offers a wide variety of commercial and domestic cleaning services to its customers. The company’s managing director, Simon Dodson, was kind enough to share the following glowing praise for SAEMA User Training.

Knowledge is power!

Several of our operatives recently undertook SAEMA training, prior to using a BMU to carry out some cleaning tasks. Part 1 of the course provided a great amount of information to ensure we could be safe in the knowledge our team would ensure best practise when using any suspended access equipment.

Part 2, the practical element, was brilliant, it put any nerves and caution at ease, with a full guided introduction to the site, highlighting exactly how to operate the specific machine, and informing us of any potential hazards.

Our staffs safety is our priority, and without undertaking the course, they would be operating blind, and unaware of any hazards and risks involved in operating this type of machinery.

The SAEMA course is essential to ensure the safety and compliance of your employees and your responsibilities as an employer.
